I can’t think of a better day to put this post together for you than day one of my cycle. There isn’t a day of the month that screams ‘SOFT-CLOTHING-ONLY’ more. You know the days. You’re bloated, you’re uncomfortable and the idea of anything that even feels like a whisper of a rigid waistband is a hard no. So whether you’re looking for ideas for working from home, weekend plans, or even the office, I have eight soft and cosy formulas up my sleeve that won’t make you feel like you’re wearing your pyjamas out of the house…

When I think of a soft clothing day outfit, this is where my head goes to first - a matching cashmere set. I love this one because it’s not too flared, nor too oversized, so it doesn’t veer into pyjama territory. My tip would be to make the rest of the outfit ooze in smartness; with structured flats*, a smooth leather bag* and an incredibly chic coat*.
A soft seventies look, thanks to the tonal browns and a vintage Armani suede jacket. Try a black turtleneck* with knitted cropped trousers à la Leandra. Accessorise with a woven bag* and smooth leather loafers*. This is a good formula to keep in your back pocket for when spring starts to hit.
Don’t discount your linen trousers. Layer them for cooler temperatures with tights underneath or a hefty jumper, like this one*. Black + white + brown *always* hits, especially when you mix up textures. The bag* elevates the whole thing, and the gold drop necklace* adds an undone detail.
Once I get into wide-leg trouser + chunky knit mode, I can’t stop myself!! It’s such a no-brainer to put together. I love playing with lighter textures on the bottom half, but here, I’ve gone for silk trousers* instead of linen. This chunky knit has done serious mileage in my wardrobe. Another good one to have on your mind for when the weather heats up a little.
There’s a bigger swing in the direction of ‘polish’ in the rest of these looks, but here’s what I’d realistically put together outfit-wise for a weekend with the little one that subtly features ALL the stretch. Instead of putting on a sweatshirt* with the matching tracksuit bottoms, I’d redirect to a pair of corduroy trousers*. Loafers* are good for non-park activities, then I’d throw an oversized wool coat*over the top.
…and finally, my go-to soft outfit day look and *looks down* - what I’m wearing right now. I was so close to leaving these St John vintage knitted trousers behind, but for one week of the month, they are all I want to wear (find a similar pair here*). I love them with this red jumper*, my leopard print shoes* and adding a bit of texture with a vintage suede jacket. It gives layered ease.
It would be great to see the outfits without the coats if possible please? What would these outfits look like in the office or in cafes without the coats would be useful, especially as in some cases have been used to smarten or polish an outfit. Thanks
