The March Edit: What I've Been Loving This Month
A monthly favourites post in Substack form for all!
I used to share monthly favourites on my YouTube channel, but since that’s evolved into mostly vlogs (15 years’ worth in the archives - subscribe if you fancy!), I’ve missed rounding up my favourite finds. So, here’s a monthly edit - unlocked for everyone to read, save, and share.
The chicest toothbrush there ever was. Look, we’re all for elevating the everyday around these parts, and if you’re going to stock your bathroom with the most aesthetically pleasing bath salts and be ahead on the prosciutto marble trend, then you’ve got to apply it to your bathroom accessories too. I’ve used my SURI Toothbrush* for well over a year now, and not only is it the chicest toothbrush I’ve ever set eyes on - and that’s a fact - it gets the job done. It gives your teeth a powerful yet gentle clean and is a sustainable option thanks to the plant-based heads that SURI recycle for free. No wasteful replacement heads to be found here! The best bit for me though, are the gunk-free magnetic mirror mounts - who wants crusty toothpaste marks ruining your bathroom set-up, like with my old brush. How good do they look? It’s such a quick and easy way to declutter your bathroom and free up counter space. The travel case is a nice touch for whenever we’re away as well; it gives your brush a UVC clean while it’s in there. And with a 40+ day battery life, you’re not needing (and forgetting) to put it on charge all the time. Petition for them to make one that matches the prosciutto marble?

A very good dressing gown. You always need something to swaddle yourself with post-morning shower, but pre-getting in your actual outfit for the day. And for me, it’s the H&M Washed Linen Dressing Gown* I reach for. It kicks into action around this time of year and lasts until the chillier months take up shop for the winter. It just feels chic.

The perfect pair of cream jeans. I have a special place in my heart for my AGOLDE Low-Slung Jeans*, but as we discussed in the chat last week, there’s something more versatile about a cream pair. Enter - the Rôhe High-Rise Wide-Leg Jeans* (more sizes here*). I had some NAP credit to use, and these just happened to fall into my basket, but they are *perfection*. A little baggy in that relaxed sort of way, a great length on me (I’m 5”7’ for reference), and overall, exactly what I was looking for. With a black tee, suede bag and flip-flops for summer? Sign me up.
Barely there eyeshadows. The more natural-looking and matte an eyeshadow, the better in my eyes. I haven’t worn anything shimmery on my lids for years at this point, and now I just have a small handful of single eyeshadows that I switch between. If ever you’re wondering what eyeshadow I’m wearing, then I can guarantee that it’s one of these. I apply them all with this brush*.
Mob Beauty Cream Clay Eyeshadow in M115* - It’s not the most long-lasting of the three, but I like the creaminess and the slight sheen it gives to the lids.
MERIT Solo Shadow in Midcentury* - A little drier than the others, but that means it has good longevity.
Armani Beauty Eye Tint in 22M Cashew* - My OG! I’ve been using the Eye Tints for years. Don’t be put off by the liquid formula, it’s ridiculously easy to apply.
Dark manicures. I know we’re technically in spring now, but I’m still here embracing the deep, dark manicures. Heck - for my last one, I went for jet black! I go to places that use The Gel Bottle brand and either go with Cinnamon Spice for a rich, dark brown that almost looks black, Jet Black for actual black, or Manor if I want more of a burgundy. If I had to pick one - I’d happily wear Cinnamon Spice daily.
Finally, a good book! I’ve been in a bit of a reading rut this year, but ‘Did You Hear About Kitty Karr?’ by Crystal Smith Paul* jolted me right out. Now, I’m 89% of the way through when I’m writing this, but unless it totally falls off a cliff, I can’t see this getting any less than a five-star rating from me. It’s certainly a complicated read, unpicking themes of racism, colourism, privilege, and identity. A multi-generational family drama, it’s been the kind of book where I’m excited to check in with everyone each night. The Goodreads reviews are mixed, but someone else nailed it when they said it’s like ‘The Vanishing Half’* meets ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’* - both books I loved.
The Barefaced Podcast. You know me, I LOVE Who Weekly. But this month - after discovering the joy of 1.25x speed - I ran out of Lindsey and Bobby content. So, thank you to Lily from The Barefaced Podcast for keeping me company. I first came across her work through her TikTok, where she shares beauty business insights. The podcast is that, but in long form where she takes a deep dive into topics like ‘The Glossier Effect’ and ‘Why Are There So Many British Beauty Retailers’ - being from the U.K, I found it fascinating - I volunteer to be your U.K correspondent Lily!
A super creamy porridge recipe. Ok, hear me out because this sounds disgusting (and looks disgusting - hence no photo!). But adding an egg to your morning oatmeal not only ups the protein content, but it makes it so darn creamy. Here’s all you need:
1 large egg (whisk in the pan until yolk and white are combined)
1/2 cup rolled oats (add to the egg in the pan and mix)
1 cup milk (I use almond milk, again add to the pan, and mix)
Heat it up on a medium heat and keep stirring. It takes about three minutes, and there you’ll have the richest, most delicious porridge you’ve ever made. It tastes like rice pudding. I pour it over some frozen raspberries and mix them in, but you could top it with whatever you fancy.
My current workout split. The beginning of the year was sprinkled with small-kid-spread illness, so my fitness routine took a bit of a back seat. But this month, I’ve been able to cultivate some form of consistency, and DAYUM, my mental health is all the better for it. My rules for workouts are simple: I have to enjoy them, and they have to be quick. So here’s what I try to tick off on a weekly basis:
2/3 x Reformer Pilates sessions. I buy them in bulk to keep the costs down and stick to early morning classes so they don’t affect my day too much. The drive there and back listening to podcasts as the sun rises are the true highlights of my week.
2/3 x 20-30 Minute Peloton Strength Classes. In an ideal world, I’d do three a week - one full body, one upper body, one lower body, but it doesn’t always work out that way. If I’m not feeling it, I’ll do arms. If I have energy, I’ll do legs. If I can’t bear the thought of lots of lunges, I’ll do full body. I do them at home in my pyjamas (pyjamas = a lower barrier to entry).
On top of that, I’ll try to get some walking in. On a London day, I can easily smash 15k steps by walking between meetings, or I have my treadmill desk set up (a Peloton Tread, with one of these on top*) for what I like to call - walking work. Once a week, I’ll crack up the incline to 12, set the speed to 3mph and sweat it out for 30 minutes whilst scrolling on my phone.

Film photography. We’ve been printing our film photos and putting them into albums since 2013, and I am VERY proud of my past self for doing that. We’ve kept it up since our little one was born, and it’s a great way to document things and keep up with albums without it feeling SUPER overwhelming. Does it mean that there are cute photos that we take on our phones that never make it into the physical albums? Sadly, yes. But we try to ensure that we have a camera with us for all major events and holidays and keep it out on the side at home to capture all the best bits. We usually use the Olympus Mju II (best sourced on eBay*), but we forgot it on our latest trip to York. So instead, we hot-footed it down to Boots to pick up a disposable one that got the job done. When the films are done, we always send them here because we love how their colours come out. It’s the best part of my day when they are developed!

Everything I Learnt From Documenting My Outfits For A Year
I’ve been tracking my wardrobe digitally for the past three years, but in 2024, I took it up a notch. Not only did I log my outfit for the day in the Indyx app, but I also supplemented it by taking an outfit selfie and sharing them as part of my Wardrobe Diary series

Where would we be without emergency Boots disposable cameras! I LOVE the idea of having photo albums just for film photos (& very impressed you’ve done that for so long!!). There’s truly something so special about capturing moments on film, they always look like the memories themselves actually feel. <3
I love the fact you use an actual camera and have your photos developed. I used to do this - think you have inspired me to start again.
Happy Memories ❤️
