The Style Edit: Silk Tops, Suede Shoes & Summer Jeans
Plus, shirt styling ideas, the best dry shampoo I've ever tried and the reader feedback that got me thinking...
It’s been a hefty week of content over at TWE, so there’s plenty to catch up on. From a post on summer layering that’s free for everyone to read, which is a good primer if you need ideas on how to spice up simple outfits that feel a little lacking. Then, for paid subscribers, I delved into a comprehensive mid-year report, where I rated everything I’ve added to my wardrobe so far in 2025, reviewed my wishlist and outfit highs and lows, and shared my purchasing plan for the rest of the year. You can read the full post here (and upgrade your subscription here if you fancy reading it!).
Deiji Studios Tie-Detail Cotton-Poplin Top* - Throwing this one at the top of the list because I featured it a few weeks ago, bought it, and welp, it’s great. I receive numerous messages about it whenever it’s featured, from others saying they love it too, how it’s great for us sweaty gals (super breezy and not too close to the armpits), and that it even makes for a good breastfeeding or summer pregnancy top. There you go! It’s ticking a lot of boxes for a lot of people and is still available in most sizes - I wear a medium.
…another quick PSA. I have it on good authority that this DONNI* Silk-Cotton Sheer Shirt you’ve been asking me about should be released on 15th July. SOON! Not too long to wait.
Staud Alba Suede Ballet Flats* - I still can’t stop thinking about olive green suede shoes (as featured in last week’s Style Edit, too), but these feel like a more year-round option. This Liffner Mini Tote* also lives rent-free in my head.
ARKET Leather-Suede Tote Bag* & Cotton Cardigan* - Not the most summery picks I know, but autumn pieces have started to trickle in and I can’t resist. First up, this tote, which is suede on one side and pony hair on the other. I think J.Crew did a similar bag a few seasons back, and I’ve always thought it seemed like a versatile piece. And then there’s this knit, which is very similar to KHAITE’s famous cardi shape, but is like 1/18th of the price.
COS Wide-Leg Denin Trousers* - These give me similar vibes to my Loulou Studios Samur Jeans (on sale here*), but with a much more affordable price tag. I find this wider leg cut of jeans a good option for summer because they are easiest to style with sandals.
COS Twist-Detail Top* - I’ve been badgering my best mate, who works in a very corporate position, for the fashion dos and don'ts of office style this week in preparation for a post I’m putting together. And given everything she’s told me, this feels like it would pass the test as a solid officewear top that you wouldn’t boil on the tube in.
St Agni Jacquard Maxi Dress* & Staud Organza Maxi Dress* - Popping in these two recommendations for if you have any last-minute big events coming up. I mean, I’m always a sucker for brown, especially if you’re usually a LBD lover but don’t fancy colour-drenching in head-to-toe black for a summer shindig.
Massimo Dutti Raffia Tote Bag* - This week, I went down a The Row raffia bag-shaped hole (💸💸💸). In terms of high-street adjacent offerings, I feel like Massimo Dutti do it best. Side note: Their leopard print bag, which I linked to ages ago, is now 40% off in the sale*.
Havaianas Luna Sandals* - Has anyone tried these and can comment on their comfort level? If I’m ever running an early-morning or late-night errand and need to quickly make myself presentable to leave the house, it’s my flip-flops I'm reaching for, and this look is a little more… substantial.
…and finally. Here’s what I picked up from Space NK this week:
K18 Airwash Dry Shampoo* - A Simone recommended purchase. MY WORD. This is incredibly expensive, but actually worth it. A liquid spray that you feel is doing nothing, and five minutes later, your hair feels clean!?
JVN Hair The Essential Dry Shampoo* - Do I need another dry shampoo? No. Do I feel the need to test every dry shampoo on the market? Yes. I haven’t tried this one yet (because I was so wowed with the K18 one!), so I’ll have to report back.
Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm in Guava* - Look, if you ever need a gift for a mate, it’s this. I picked up one for myself and one for a friend in their new guava scent, which smells like all the kid makeup I begged my parents for when I was 10 years old.
Maison Margiela Never Ending Summer* - Along with Glossier, MM fragrances are pretty much the only ones I wear (and are light enough not to give me a headache). This smells like a punchier version of CKOne (complimentary!).
I receive an email each time someone upgrades their subscription (THANK YOU!), and recently I’ve seen a fair number of gift subscriptions come in, which truly is the ultimate compliment. If you have a tricky person to buy for in your life, who you think would enjoy a dig around this corner of the internet (there are over 300 posts in the archive now!!), then you can gift them a month’s or a full year’s access. Substack gives you the option to schedule the delivery date, too, which is helpful.
Behind the paywall this week: there’s the crème de la crème of Substack reading for you to sink your teeth into, and a very helpful email from a reader who critiqued my wardrobe in the best kind of way and got me thinking. Plus - a reader request! You asked for ideas on how to style the WNU Weekend Shirt in Green* and this week, I’ve got ideas for you by the bucketload. It’s chatty. It’s fun.
