Good for you, Anna! In my opinion you still look great but your post is so refreshing and completely relatable. Tbh I’m pretty fed up of seeing influencers with their kids always looking perfectly styled when travelling (happy for them) but it can feel unrealistic, especially for a good old British staycation and the weather we get here! ❤️
Love this post, Anna. I feel your pain re the practical parka - I’ve got the same issue here, it’s a “needs must” item that I just don’t like! I still think you rocked all the outfits, but really like the tweaks you’ve suggested. But, thank you for being a normal human in your Converse and rucksack and big coat though, I agree with KT in the comments that that in itself is refreshing these days :)
Agree with other commenters, it is nice to see people just existing in the world without their outfit looking perfectly put together, but totally understand the desire to make this all work better next time. Side note: I cannot avoid puffer coat life based on the climate where I live and have ALWAYS been obsessed with that Arket puffer of yours because it’s the chicest version of a puffer coat. I’ll be stalking your vinted because I would snag it right up! My current puffer is from 2017 and it shows. Well worn and 100% not my style anymore.
Thank you for this post! I spent the Easter weekend in an oversized black sweater and gym tights and I wrote down a list of the things I missed in my notes app and it was the best thing I could do for my wardrobe!
I’ve learned to accept that my travel outfits just might not have quite the zing I want because 1) I need to prioritize comfort & practicality more, especially for shoes and 2) I don’t have my whole wardrobe with me! It seems obvious but when traveling we’re always making do with limited options. You just can’t make the same outfit tweaks on the fly. And that’s okay. It’s far more important to enjoy yourself and have a wonderful time. Not everything can or should be a fashion moment.
Great idea on waiting with the barn jacket until autumn. On the other hand the weather in the UK is somewhat similar to Denmark, where I'm based, which means that you will still have plenty of days when you will wish you already had that perfect barn jacket. ;) ...just saying
Anna, I've been in this exact situation for the past two weeks. I've been staying with my folks and definitely packed in "aspirational" mode (that warm weather we had fooled me into thinking it was here to stay!) rather than "reality" mode. In short, I've ended up wearing the same four things for 14 days. It's fiiine, obviously, in the grand scheme of things, but I'm so ready to switch it up and feel like myself again!
I so get this! Whenever I travel, in an effort to pack light, I get caught up with capsule wardrobes of the things I *should* be wearing rather than what would make me feel great. I think for me it’s connected to preparing for a different climate— it throws me off my game. Your discussion of the puffer exemplifies it perfectly.
Really refreshing to read such an honest post about not always liking your outfits but it being okay! I think a lot of women feel this way. Lifetime Braunton resident here, glad to see you enjoying your North Devon holiday on my doorstep (and feeling very lucky to live here!).
always love the discourse around not having every outfit be absolutely perfect & analyzing what could have been done differently. (i think all of these fits look fab tho IMO) - my favorite thing to do is be constructively critical of my own style choices 💁🏼♀️ — great introspection per usual !!!!
Love this post Anna, and echo all those above re authenticity and your need for a break. More ideas on the stylish yet practical looks for time outside ( in the UK) are all welcomed! I have 2 sporty teens and in the autumn winter I am at cross country events and in the spring / summer I’m trackside for athletics - I like clothes, I like to feel good on what I wear, but it can be challenging to think of stylish and practical outfits for 3 weekends out of 4! Hope you had a great break x

Thank you for being real about not always nailing our outfits. Being practical and stylish is hard! Love the swaps you suggested.

This is brilliant! So helpful. I am outdoors a lot and love my barn jacket with Uniqlo inner. Scottish weather means I wear it a lot!

Do you still have the waxed jacket you were wearing on the beach recently? It was perfect!
I love your authenticity, and I love that you took a freaking break. You do a lot. Important. Xoooooo
You won’t regret the country jacket from Toteme. I love mine in green 😍 so chic and good for every day life.
